Our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Rugby, as a sport, is working hard to improve its diversity and inclusiveness and to seek to offer anyone who wishes to take part in the sport to be able to do so.  As a small rugby Club, we try to offer as inclusive an opportunity as we can given the limited teams we currently run and the number of matches played in a season.

We hope to expand the Club as we regain membership in the post-Covid era and we are committed to strive for increased diversity wherever possible.

We believe in the approach of the RFU and as our governing body, and we will always try and reflect its Diversity and Inclusion policy, namely to ensure that all those who wish to participate in rugby union with the London Exiles RUFC are treated fairly. Furthermore that all participants, within the capability of the Club, given the teams it runs, should be given equal opportunity irrespective of age, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender reassignment, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marriage & civil partnership or pregnancy & maternity.

We hope as a Club to always support the RFU in its drive to achieve greater inclusion in Rugby Union through committing to understanding, building and advocating change across the four fundamental pillars the RFU has identified.

Following the RFU direction, we look to focus on understanding people and what they want out of the Club and Rugby as a sport, to engaging all communities who wish to be part of the sport and where we can, champion inclusive change.

We try where possible with our senior Mens team(s) and Veterans team to:

  • Understand: The people who participate in our game; who they are and their experiences;

  • Offer an inclusive culture across the Club which empowers diversity to flourish;

  • Celebrate the diversity that we have and advocate the importance of inclusion and diversity within the Club and our sport and beyond in Society.

Lastly, and importantly, in the future, we have ambition to start a mini’s rugby section and also to try and start a Women’s rugby team, both of which will, we hope, help us to further improve our diversity and Inclusion.
